Thoughts on Mountains & Valleys

Looking up in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah

One of my favorite Christmas carols is “Go Tell it on the Mountain” — and I especially love this rendition by James Taylor.

Recently, while listening to that song on my car radio, traversing through the flat lands of suburban streets in the midwest, I couldn’t help but think:  If we’re gonna tell it from the mountain, we’ll have to walk through our share of valleys.

I thought back to my college discipler, Sarah.  While I was home one summer and wishing I could be doing something “big” for God that year, she wrote me that “We all long for mountain-top experiences, but the fruit that lasts grows in the valley.”

Isn’t that the truth?!!
