Archives For God

This week in our study of A Confident Heart by Renee Swope, we’re discussing Chapter 6, “When Doubt Whispers … I’m Not Good Enough.”

Oh sweet friends, my heart desperately wishes this chapter weren’t so applicable in my life.  But it is.  (I wrote more on that earlier in the week as we introduced this chapter.)

One area, especially, where doubt whispers “Not good enough” to me is in the area of motherhood.

It’s so common for moms to question themselves and their parenting abilities.  Yet today, as I celebrate the birthday of my youngest daughter, I’m very aware that just like a corporate employee can improve in her job skills, moms can gain skills and confidence in our roles as well.  Moms can, and do, get better through the years.  (Separately … maybe there needs to be some kind of an “It Gets Better Project” for young moms??!  We’ll save that for another day.) Some thoughts I shared Facebook for Father’s Day this year …

Every now and then you run into something that just screams, SHARE THIS.  So, here goes:

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true friends;
succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world your best anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Evidently this is a take supposedly by Mother Teresa on Dr. Kent Keith’s paradoxical commands from 1968.  Not sure as to the validity that she wrote it, but the truth of it certainly resonated with me.  Enjoy.
